Studentship Award

UniDLA awards fully-funded studentships; this includes tuition fees, stipend and Research Training and Support Grant (RTSG) .

Stipend

Students will receive a tax-free stipend for each year of study. The stipend amount will be the UKRI minimum rates (£21,805 for 2026/27) plus an annual Unilever-funded supplement of £4500. Additionally, £2,000 per annum London Weighting Allowance will be offered for students, registered in London-based Universities.

Tuition fees

All tuition fees will be fully covered by the studentship.

Research Training and Support Grant (RTSG)

A generous allowance will be provided for research consumables and for attending UK and international conferences, and specialist training, as required.

Eligibility

Residence

For admission in 2026, only Home UK students (normally resident in the UK for the past 3 years) are all eligible to apply. If you are unsure whether you meet the eligibility requirements, contact the project supervisor using the email address on the appropriate project details page.

Degree

Applicants must hold, or be expected to achieve, a first or high upper second-class undergraduate honours degree or equivalent (for example BA, BSc, MSci) or a Masters degree in a relevant subject.

Applicants who do not meet the minimum entrance requirements may be admitted if they can prove relevant professional experience which demonstrates that the applicant can follow and complete the programme.

Language requirement

All students whose first language is not English must be able to provide recent evidence that their spoken and written command of the English language is adequate for the programme. The required evidence may be one of the following:
Substantial education or work experience conducted in English
A recently obtained acceptable English language qualification or test result. Our preferred English language qualification is the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Version and we require candidates to achieve the level of "GOOD" (overall grade of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each of the subtests).
