BBSRC-funded Unilever Industrial Doctoral Landscape Award
Our BBSRC-funded Unilever Industrial Doctoral Landscape Award (UniDLA) offers an outstanding opportunity for doctoral research and training and is a partnership between King’s College London, Unilever, and University of Liverpool, University of Manchester, and University College London.

About BBSRC UniDLA
UniDLA is the BBSRC-funded doctoral training (Ph.D.) programme run by King’s College London and Unilever together with Liverpool and Manchester Universities and University College London. It offers an outstanding opportunity for doctoral training with projects based not just at those institutions but also at universities across the UK that do cutting-edge research in scientific areas of interest to Unilever.
UniDLA builds on Unilever’s decades of collaborative Ph.D. programmes and unique training and industrial experience opportunities as well as connection to Unilever’s existing cohorts of Ph.D. students and students at the London Interdisciplinary Doctoral Programme (LIDo) and the Northwest Doctoral Programme (NWD).
Why choose UnIDLA?

UniDLA provides holistic training, offering students well-rounded, interdisciplinary development. This includes in-depth subject-specific training at their HEIs, top-class transferable skills training from Hosting Universities, LIDo and NWD, and practical industrial training at Unilever during placements.
UniDLA equips students with interdisciplinary skills, practical business insights and commercial awareness on the application of scientific research to deliver world-leading consumer goods.
UniDLA provides networking and social opportunities, bringing students across the UK together to meet one another in person annually at one of Unilever’s R&D sites in the UK, and linking students in the programme to local Doctoral Training Programmes and events.
Unilever provides an annual stipend supplement and, to enable ambitious projects and students, extra consumables and travel funding.
UniDLA studentships are fully funded for four years.
